Peter Baierl was awarded the IMA-Award 2005 during access 06

For the first time the IMA-Award ceremony took place at the trade fair Access, on Oct. 2, in the imperial premises of the Hofburg Vienna: Peter Baierl was honoured for his successful congress management concerning the ECR - European Congress of Radiology - and his extraordinary achievements for the Austrian faie-, event and congress economy.
The congress manager Peter Baierl has succeeded to establish the ECR in Vienna since 1991 - a uniqueness in the European congress economy!

Suiting to the topic the award ceremony took place right after the expert panel „The international Congress - Branding in Science “. Already in the expert panel the participants addressed the often lengthy application procedures necessary for bringing an international congresses to Vienna. Additionally, contacts to industry and economics as well as organization criteria - all necessary for a successful congress - were discussed.


Peter Baierl underlined these arguments later, during the award ceremony, at the presentation of the ECR and the associated organization.
The ECR is one of the main activities of the European Society of Radiology and is divided into a number of committees that meet several times per year for pre-organising the yearly congress. More than 200 persons of the organization – 40 of them situated in the Viennese offices – are engaged with the organization of this large congress.
Goal of the ECR is to promote the radiology, highlight its importance in medicine worldwide and provide for highest quality of this technology. To achieve this goal and in addition to the congress several projects for training, research, management, quality assurance and socio-economical responsibility are organised and supported. In addition the European Congress of Radiology offers an international networking platform - within the medical science as well as between science and industry.
The success of the programs is self-evident: the ECR registers a growing numbers of participants for years. 2006 already over 9.000 radiologists attended the congress. When including also the representatives of the economy and accompanying people more then 16.000 participants of the ECR visited Vienna.
However, growth is not the main target for Peter Baierl. More important to him is the generation of the entire potential knowledge and the access to this knowledge for all interested people world-wide through the tools of the new media.

The overall profitability for the Austrian economy is enormous: through airlines, hotels and restaurants, companies in the fair-, event and congress industry as well many small local businesses thousands of jobs are secured by large international congresses.

The Award was presented by the executive committee of I.M.Austria under congratulation of the co-organizers and governing bodies of the tradefair Access, Christian Mutschlechner/Vienna Convention Bureau and Inge Tremmel/abcn – Österreich Werbung.
